What is a School-Parent Compact? The School-Parent Compact is an agreement that parents, students, and teachers develop together. It explains how parents and teachers will work together to make sure all students reach grade-level standards. Our School-Parent Compact offers ways that we can work together to help our students succeed. This compact provides strategies to help connect learning at school and at home. The School-Parent Compact is sent home with all students before November 1st. To request a copy of the SZES 2019 - 2020 School-Parent Compact, please contact Sherry Jordan, Family Engagement Specialist, at 912-618-0287 or

How is the School-Parent Compact Developed? The SZES parents, students and staff partnered together to develop the school-parent compact for achievement. Teachers suggested strategies for learning to be used at home, parents added input about the types of support they needed, and then students told us what would help them learn. Parents are encouraged to attend annual review meetings held in the spring each year to review the compact and to make suggestions based on student needs and school improvement goals.

Parents are welcome to contribute comments and/or suggestions about the School-Parent Compact at any time. Please contact Sherry Jordan, Family Engagement Specialist at 912-618-0287 or

School-Parent Compact Agreement:

Teachers at SZES are dedicated to working with students and their families to support students’ academic achievement in English Language Arts (ELA)/Reading and Math. Some of our key connections with parents and family members that correlate to our academic goal will be:

  • Providing families with weekly newsletters highlighting ELA activities in the classroom.
  • Offering the ELA/Reading Family Night and the STEM Family Learning Day to reinforce learning and model activities for parents to replicate at home.
  • Featuring online ELA & Math  resources for students for use at school and home such as I-Ready and Reflex Math to encourage critical thinking.

Parents and families agree to partner with the school and support their child’s success by:

  • Reading the weekly newsletters and testing their child’s knowledge by asking him/her questions for their understanding of the strategies.
  • Attending the ELA/Reading Night and the STEM Family Learning Day to gain relevant information and ideas to support their child’s learning in ELA and Math.
  • Visiting the Family Resource Center or Mobile Parent Resource Cart and online resources to discover educational resources to support their child's learning.

Students will take responsibility for their own learning and commit to their personal level of success by:

  • Bringing home ELA/Reading materials and reading daily with a family member or independently.
  • Taking home notices for the ELA/Reading Night and the STEM Family Learning Day and attend with their parents.
  • Bringing home Math materials and by practicing Math facts with an adult daily.

Communication about Student Learning - SZES will provide the opportunities for staff and families to communicate regarding student learning. We will make an effort to offer communications in the language that families can understand. These are ways SZES will communicate with families:
